Laura L. Maksymkow
Vice President | Partner
Chartered Financial Consultant, ChFC
Have you prepared a personal net worth statement? It’s one of the client exercises Laura most enjoys. She approaches personal financial statements in much the same way as a controller reports on a corporation.
Growing up in a family business in Grand Rapids, Laura has always had an affinity for doing the books and organizing processes. She worked in her family’s construction business before earning her accounting and business administration degree at Duluth Business University. Then she took off to work and explore in Alaska, where she lived for nine years. She advanced to the position of controller, where she honed her unique ability to customize financial statements for multiple company divisions.
Laura did corporate accounting and financial statements for almost 20 years. During that time she took an interest in investing. “I found it so interesting,” shared Laura. “It was like a personal hobby.” In 1996 Laura obtained both her insurance and securities license. Her goal was to help families become properly protected, debt free and financially independent using simple financial concepts such as the Rule of 72. Her client-focus, attention to detail and dedication to unequivocal excellence are valuable assets for clients’ financial planning and business forecasting.
Her love of details and understanding of how investments work inspired her to create and develop the PathWiseTM Financial Planning process B&E uses today. It helps clients understand their finances and turn what is complicated and sometimes scary, into a comprehensive plan that is easy to understand.
When a client says, “I had no idea you’d deliver as much as you just delivered, and I understood it.” Laura knows she’s accomplished her goals.
Outside of work, Laura and her husband Ron have been married since 1996. Her two adult children, Erik and Kassie, are out on their own, so Laura and Ron are starting to travel more. She welcomes recommendations.
And if you are ever going to Alaska, Laura suggests flying into Anchorage, taking the train up into the mountains to see amazing wildlife, then coming back down to a ship to see the whales and enjoy the water.
