Avoid Emotionally Driven Decisions

March 27, 2017 //  by B&E

In this segment B&E’s Vice President Stefani Fiedler delivers objective ways to avoid emotionally driven decisions on important money matters.

We meet people every day who make important money decisions just because it feels right or wrong at the current time, or because they are stressed out about the outcome and just want it to be done.   Do you consider yourself a person that makes emotionally driven decisions or are you able to be completely objective and rational about financial matters? We’ve found most people, even those working in our industry, find it challenging to remain objective when it’s about them and their money matters.  That’s where we help…we present projections and statistics that give greater clarity on the financial decisions you make, and help provide the ability to ride through market waves.

When was the last time you made an investment based on a quick fix to make you happy now, only to end up not being satisfied in the long run? It happens. We recognize the psychological side of dealing with money matters. We believe in telling our clients what they need to hear, not always what they want to hear. We don’t always give way to instant gratification; money is a utility we employ to help you navigate.

Think about money matters this way.  Investing can be like baking a cake. You could go to a store and pick up a Twinkie. The Twinkie is instant gratification, it’s been around since 1935, and you know what you are going to get … and it will be fine. The Twinkie is like a savings account from a bank. But if you take the time to bake your own cake, you set yourself up for greater return on your experience. If you follow the directions, mix the right ingredients and bake per the recipe for 30 minutes you get something that is normally “better than a Twinkie”.   But If you only have 15 minutes and therefore you turn the oven up to 700 degrees, it is not going to work – it’s like making an emotional driven money matters decision.   Investing is like cake baking… follow the recipe and after time you have an excellent chance of doing better than only saving with the bank.   We simply remind people when the market dips to “remember the cake bake” and let your investments bake for the stated recipe time. Our clients look to us to take the emotion out of financial decisions, and follow a recipe for success.

With your interest in mind, B&E delivers objective ways to avoid emotionally driven decisions on important money matters.  Our goal is to help you live, retire and leave the legacy you desire.
